If you’ve found this blog post, chances are you’ve had a spill and are now left wondering how to get coffee stains out of carpet, upholstery or rugs. If that’s the case, you’ve come to the right place; and it is important to get to work on that stain as soon as possible! Luckily, we will cover how to remove coffee stains— so let’s go ahead and get into it.
STEP 1: BLOT COFFEE STAIN
The first step to remove coffee stains is to blot up as much of the spill as possible using a white towel or paper towel. Make sure to do this gently and avoid rubbing, as it can cause the stain to spread and damage the fibers.
Continue blotting until no more of the coffee stain remains on the surface. This will help prevent the stain from further setting into the fabric and make the subsequent removal methods more effective.
Remember, always test any cleaning solution on an inconspicuous area before applying it to the stained area. This will help ensure it doesn’t cause any damage to your furnishings.
STEP 2: USE YOUR FABRIC CARE KIT. DON'T HAVE ONE? sKIP TO STEP 4
The Fabric Care Kit provided with Fiber-Seal fabric protection services includes details on how to clean a coffee stain. After blotting, you will need to apply our water-based stain cleaner, pHnominal, onto a clean white towel. Then, continue blotting the coffee stain again until it no longer transfers onto the white towel. With the superior cleaning solutions provided in our Fabric Care Kit and careful, diligent blotting, you should be able to successfully remove stubborn coffee stains and protect your valuable furnishings from long-term damage. If the stain has been completely removed, you’re done! If not, continue to the following steps.

STEP 3: COLORRENEU FOR REMOVING COFFEE STAINS
Repeat the previous steps for pHnominal, but with ColorReneu this time. Continue until the stain no longer persists. With the carefully formulated cleaning solutions provided in our Fabric Care Kit and careful, diligent blotting, you should be able to successfully remove stubborn coffee stains and protect your beloved furnishings from long-term damage. If, however, the coffee stain persists…

Over the counter DIY coffee stain spot cleaning
With coffee stain removal or other stains, DIY methods can be effective— but carry far more risk than trusting a professional. One method that we have seen some success with in removing coffee stains is to first blot to remove any existing liquids, before applying a 25% white vinegar solution (2 oz of white vinegar plus 6 oz of water) to a white towel and blotting.
Nowadays, many floor coverings are manufactured to be “stain resistant”— particularly ones of synthetic fiber makeup such as nylon or polyester. While this may mean that your carpet will fend off stains for a longer period, it also means that certain over the counter spot cleaners can permanently alter the appearance of the fibers! Cleaners such as Nature’s Miracle and Oxi Clean contain chemicals called optical brighteners, meaning that while they can work wonders on certain fabrics and floor coverings, they can be detrimental to others by permanently taking out or altering color – particularly those that are stain resistant. Oxi Clean also has an alkaline pH that can cause fiber damage on wool, silk and other protein fibers.
