2027 Furniture Trends: Colors We Expect to See In the Home

Furniture trends are often influenced by the colors and materials gaining popularity throughout interior design. As we look ahead to 2027, interior color trends are pointing toward furnishings that feel more colorful, expressive and inspired by nature.

Sherwin-Williams recently released Rewild, the 2027 Colormix Trend Forecast featuring 48 colors designed to encourage creativity and individuality in the home. While the forecast focuses on paint color, we expect these shades to influence home furniture trends— making their way off the walls and into upholstery, rugs, draperies and other soft surfaces.

Here are a few 2027 furniture trends we’re expecting to see when it comes to color.

Nature-Inspired colors move into furnishings

One of the strongest influences throughout the Rewild forecast is the connection to nature. Deep mossy greens, mineral shades, rust tones and stone-inspired colors bring warmth and depth to any space.

As these interior design color trends move beyond walls, we expect to see them reflected in furnishings as well. A rich green upholstered chair, earthy rug, or warm-toned drapery can introduce color inspired by nature while adding another layer of interest to a room.

Rich, saturated upholstery makes a statement

Color is also becoming more expressive. Sherwin-Williams’ Reignite story focuses on how chromatic tension and tactile contrast are emotionally charging spaces.

For furnishings, jewel-toned velvet, colorful accent chairs and boldly patterned rugs will become increasingly popular. Even if the rest of a room remains relatively neutral, one richly colored furnishing can completely change the feel of the space.

For designers and homeowners who aren’t ready to commit to a colorful sofa— smaller upholstered pieces, pillows and draperies offer a way to incorporate these trends into your next design.

Continuity colors create a timeless foundation

Not every color trend needs to make a statement. Rewild also includes 10 Continuity Colors selected for their timelessness: Cordovan, Red Barn, High Sierra, White Duck, Celery, Icicle, Dutch Tile Blue, Roycroft Bronze Green, Clove and Forged steel.

These colors are designed to provide a foundation for the bolder shades within the forecast. For homeowners who prefer a more timeless approach to home color trends, the Continuity Colors offer plenty of inspiration.

We love the Continuity Colors concept for those thinking about larger furnishing investments. A sofa, upholstered bed, or area rug in a more enduring color can provide a timeless base, while bolder shades can be layered throughout the room as tastes and trends change. As a fabric protection company, we are big fans of increasing the longevity of your furnishings for a more sustainable world with less furniture waste.

texture is just as important as color

Color isn’t the only thing influencing how a color feels in a room. Texture is an essential part of tying a room together.

A saturated shade on velvet can add depth and dimension, while the same color on a woven textile can create a completely different effect. Rugs, draperies, upholstery and other soft surfaces also give designers an opportunity to layer both color and texture throughout a room.

When selecting these materials, appearance shouldn’t be the only consideration. Fiber content, fabric construction, intended use and maintenance can all affect how a textile performs in the home.

Bringing 2027 furniture trends into your home

You don’t need to replace every furnishing in a room to embrace new furniture trends.

A statement chair can introduce a rich jewel tone. Draperies can add warmth and texture. A rug can tie several colors together at once. Even a few pillows can introduce new shades without requiring a major change.

For designers, textiles also provide an opportunity to interpret color trends in a way that feels personal to each client, rather than following what’s popular.

protect the furnishings that bring your design to life

Whether you’re investing in a new sofa or choosing new furnishings for a client’s home, the pieces you choose are meant to be enjoyed.

Fiber-Seal fabric protection helps reduce the absorbency of fabrics, making everyday spots and spills easier to manage. Professional protection, cleaning and ongoing maintenance can help preserve the appearance of upholstery, rugs and other soft surfaces throughout the home.

For designers working with a unique textile, Fiber-Seal can also evaluate fabrics to cleanability and other potential maintenance concerns before they are placed in a client’s home.

Make 2027 furniture trends your own

The beautiful thing about the Rewild forecast is that there isn’t one right way to use these colors— it encourages designers to mix and interpret the collection in their own way.

Whether you love saturated shades, nature-inspired combinations or the more timeless Continuity Colors, the 2027 furniture trends we’re watching are ultimately about creating spaces that feel personal and intentional.

Choose the colors and furnishings you love— and we’ll be here to help give them the proper care they need to remain beautiful.
